Yes, you can have a city break and keep the kids happy!

Vilnius may be a historic European capital, but it’s also very family-friendly. With plenty of green spaces, fun playgrounds, and welcoming cafés, it's a great choice for a city holiday with children in tow.

Whether you're visiting with toddlers or teens, here's how to plan a stress-free, fun-filled stay with kids in Vilnius.

🗺️ Pick a Family-Friendly Location

When choosing where to stay, aim for a location close to green areas and attractions — that way you can mix sightseeing with spontaneous park visits and easy meals. Our recommended family base? Vilnius Old Town. It’s beautiful, walkable, and home to some of the city’s best playgrounds.

Ask your hosts! Many holiday rentals in Vilnius can provide a baby cot, high chair, and even a toy box if you ask in advance. It makes settling in with little ones much easier.

🛝 Best Playgrounds in the City Centre

Kids will love exploring the playgrounds scattered throughout the Old Town. Here are a few favourites within walking distance:

  • Bernardinai ParkA large, tree-filled park with two fantastic playgrounds, space to run around, and even a splash area in summer. There’s a coffee kiosk and food truck nearby for grown-ups too.

  • Reformatų SquareA modern and artsy playground with lots of climbing equipment and water features. It’s a favourite for locals.

  • Rudninku SquareA smaller, quieter playground tucked away near the southern end of the Old Town.

  • Moniuškos Square & Konstantinas Sirvydas SquarePerfect for a quick play break in between sightseeing.

🍽 Eating Out with Kids in Vilnius

Eating out with kids here is easy and actually... kind of fun! Most restaurants welcome families, and many have kids’ menus or high chairs. A few even go the extra mile:

  • Bernardinai Park Food TruckAfter the playground, grab a snack or meal from the nearby food truck — quick, casual, and perfect for eating in the park.

  • Vilnius Street Food SpotsFrom open-air food courts to small indoor markets, there are plenty of places where kids can pick what they like. No long waits, no formal setting — just good, easy food.

  • Casa la FamiliaA cozy pizzeria with a slide inside the restaurant for little ones to burn off energy. Great food for grown-ups too!

🥞 Don’t Miss: “Varškėčiai”

Ask any Lithuanian and they’ll tell you: childhood isn’t complete without varškėčiai. These soft, warm cottage cheese pancakes are usually served with jam or sour cream, and are a hit with kids of all ages.

👣 Keep It Flexible

Travelling with kids is all about balance. Vilnius is compact and stroller-friendly, with lots of open spaces for breaks. Plan one or two main activities per day, and leave room for the unexpected — like street performers, festivals, or that second visit to the playground.
